It was a memorable evening in North East as a local Civil Air Patrol cadet was recognized for his dedication, leadership, and commitment to excellence.

Alexander Belden, a cadet with the Erie Composite Squadron of the Civil Air Patrol, was presented with the prestigious Amelia Earhart Award during a special ceremony attended by family, friends, and fellow squadron members. The award was presented by State Representative Jake Banta.

The Amelia Earhart Award is one of the Civil Air Patrol’s highest cadet achievements and is awarded to cadets who demonstrate exceptional leadership and performance throughout the program. Only about three percent of Civil Air Patrol cadets nationwide earn the distinction, making it a significant milestone in a cadet’s career.

For Belden, the award represents years of hard work, perseverance, and dedication to the organization.

The celebration included another major accomplishment for the young airman. Upon receiving the Amelia Earhart Award, Belden was also promoted to the rank of Cadet Captain within the Erie Composite Squadron.

The promotion marks a new chapter in his Civil Air Patrol journey, placing him in a greater leadership role and recognizing the skills and experience he has developed through the program.

Family members, fellow cadets, and community leaders joined in congratulating Belden on the achievement, which recognizes not only his accomplishments in aerospace education and leadership training, but also his commitment to serving others through the Civil Air Patrol.

The evening served as a proud moment for both Belden and the Erie Composite Squadron as they celebrated a milestone reached by only a select few cadets nationwide.
