PITTSTON – For Carley Egerter, grooming dogs is about much more than giving a pet a haircut. It is about understanding the animal, earning its trust and making sure each dog leaves her downtown Pittston shop looking and feeling its best.

Egerter, the owner of Carley’s Fairy Tail Dog Grooming, located at 8 N. Main St., started in Sept. 2020.

Her path into dog grooming was somewhat unconventional. She began her education in cosmetology before discovering that many of the skills involved in working with human hair could be applied to another type of client — dogs.

With her background in cosmetology, Egerter emphasizes understanding each dog’s individual personality and needs rather than treating grooming as simply a routine bath and haircut.

She has created a comfortable environment where dogs can receive personal attention rather than being treated as one of many animals moving through a high-volume grooming operation.

That approach has helped Carley’s Fairy Tail develop a loyal clientele throughout the Greater Pittston and Wyoming Valley area.

The shop is particularly appealing to owners of dogs that may be nervous, anxious or uncomfortable in a traditional grooming environment.

Egerter takes pride in her patience and gentle handling, with some describing their dogs as anxious before appointments but comfortable in her care.

Clientele includes dogs of many breeds, sizes and personalities. Grooming services are aimed at keeping pets clean, healthy and properly maintained while also giving owners the opportunity to have their dogs styled according to their preferences.

Carley’s Fairy Tail is a multiple-time winner of Best Pet Groomer in Greater Pittston by the Sunday Dispatch’s Best of the Best recognition in ’23, ’24, ’25, and now in 2026.

In addition to the Best of Greater Pittston, the business again received major recognition, being chosen as a Gold Winner for Best Pet Groomer in the Times Leader’s Best of the Best, as voted on by readers this year.

For Egerter, the business represents both a career and a passion for animals. What started with a young woman learning the fundamentals of cosmetology evolved into a specialized profession built around four-legged clients.
