Violations: Observed food stored directly on the floor in walk-in cooler area, rather than 6 inches off the floor as required. Food facility does not have available sanitizer test strips or test kit to determine appropriate chlorine sanitizer concentration. The food facility does not have the original certificate for the certified food employee posted in public view. Paper towel dispenser empty at the handwash sink in the kitchen area. Paper towels were placed at the sink during this inspection.
•Crown Fried Chicken, 1108 S. Washington Ave., Scranton. Most recent inspection: Sept. 14. Inspection type: follow-up. Violations: Cigarette ash found in the soda storage area during the inspection. Food in sandwich cooler unit service wells was held at 45°F, rather than 41°F or below as required. Unit temperature should be adjusted until unit can hold food at 41 or less. Food facility was using test strips that did not match the sanitizer; changed to chlorine sanitizer until QUAT test strips are in-house. Observed spices unprotected in dry storage area, which is subject to potential contamination. Outside waste handling unit and storage area was extremely dirty, sticky, and attracting insects and rodents. Observed several containers of refuse stored outside the food facility and not in the closed waste handling units. Ceiling, a non-food-contact surface, not cleaned at a frequency to preclude accumulation of dust and dirt. Sewage odor coming from utility sink.
•Crystal Lake Hotel, 339 Crystal Lake Road, Fell Twp. Most recent inspection: Aug. 26. Inspection type: regular. Violations: Non-food-contact surfaces (fan guards in the walk-in cooler) not cleaned at a frequency to preclude accumulation of dust. Food facility is reusing plastic food storage bags, which are intended to be a single-service or single-use article.
•Kentucky Fried Chicken, 1831 Keyser Ave., Scranton. Most recent inspection: Sept. 1. Inspection type: complaint. Violations: Ceiling in dining area has leaking and sagging tiles.
•Marjon Golf Course, 1360 Griffin Road, Roaring Brook Twp. Most recent inspection: Aug. 28. Inspection type: regular. Violations: Thermometers for ensuring proper temperatures of food are not available or readily accessible in the clubhouse. A food employee was observed touching rolls, a ready-to-eat food, with bare hands. Instructed the food employee to wash hands and then don gloves prior to touching ready-to-eat food. One drain stopper missing in the bar kitchen and two missing in the clubhouse. Sanitizer is not available in the clubhouse to clean and sanitize food contact surfaces. QAC sanitizer and test strips were placed in the clubhouse. Food employee stated that chemical sanitizer is not being used on equipment and utensils after washing and rinsing them, and prior to use. Instructed employee to wash-rinse-sanitize food-contact surfaces. Sink bay set up with 200 ppm QA sanitizer.
•Quinn’s Market, 1427 Main St., Peckville. Most recent inspection: Aug. 26. Inspection type: regular. Violations: Food facility has an original certificate posted, but the location is not conspicuous for public viewing. Cut cantaloupe was held at 52°F at room temp in the produce area, rather than 41°F or below as required. Reviewed proper cut fruits time/temp control for food safety. Floor behind cooking equipment and shelving area in the food facility is dirty, dusty and in need of cleaning.
•Red Leaf Salad Co., 808 Scranton-Carbondale Highway, Dickson City. Most recent inspection: Sept. 8. Inspection type: regular. Violations: Sesame ahi tuna/salmon were held in the range of 47-51°F, in the cold prep station area, rather than 41°F or below as required. Reviewed proper cooling and cold holding temp with person in charge for corrective action.
•The Barrel, 881 State Route 307, Spring Brook Twp. Most recent inspection: Sept. 8. Inspection type: regular. Violations: Chlorine chemical sanitizer residual detected in the final sanitizer rinse cycle of the low-temperature sanitizing dishwasher was 0 ppm, and not 50-100 ppm as required. Shall clean and sanitize food-contact surfaces in the three-bay sink until the dishwasher is repaired. Owner called the repair service. Food ingredient storage containers, in the kitchen, are not labeled with the common name of the food. The containers were labeled. The hand-wash sink in the kitchen was blocked by bowls and containers and not accessible at all times for employee use. The bowls and containers were removed from the sink. Chlorine test strips have been damaged and are not effective for testing the sanitizer concentration. Old food residue and liquid on the bottom of the refrigerator below the grill on the cookline. The area was cleaned. Knives in the wall scabbard by the freezer on the cookline, food-contact surfaces, were observed to have food residue and not clean to sight and touch. The knives were placed at the sink for cleaning. Old food residue on the floor below the storage racks and by the entrance to the walk-in cooler. The area will be cleaned today.
