WERNERSVILLE, Pa. – A historic train station in Western Berks County is celebrating its 100th birthday this weekend.
The first cornerstone of the current Wenersville Train station was laid back in 1926. It was a major hub back then, with 26 trains stopping a day at its peak.
The station was part of the Reading Railroad line, which played a huge part in rail travel centuries ago.
“The turn of the century, it was the largest corporation in the world. Everything that they owned, all their possessions that they acquired, and so on and so forth,” said Volunteer John Bukowski.

“As a kid growing up, I’d seen coal trains coming up and down and just didn’t realize how big it was,” Bukowski added.
All passenger services on Reading’s Lebanon Valley branch were stopped in June of 1963, but the station stands as a reminder of what once was.
