2 Allentown schools switch to virtual learning Monday over social media threat | Allentown Area

LEHIGH CO., Pa. – Allentown School District announced that two schools switched to a virtual learning day Monday due to a social media threat.

Melissa Reese with Allentown School District says Trexler Middle School and Innovative Arts Academy students are learning virtually Monday, and that no one has been harmed or affected because of the threat.

The Allentown Police Department says it is aware of the threat and it’s currently under investigation.

“We are aware of a reported threat on social media and are working directly with law enforcement to determine the appropriate course of action,” an announcement on Innovative Arts Academy’s website says.

“If you see the threatening message, please do not share, forward, or repost it. Take a screenshot that includes the account name and any identifying information, preserve the original message, and report it directly to the school. All information will be handled confidentially,” the announcement reads.

ASD officials request students and parents continue to monitor their email and the school’s official social media channels for verified updates.
