In a 50-21 win over Carbondale Area, the senior carried 18 times for 267 yards and five touchdowns. He had scoring runs of 80 and 56 yards on consecutive touches in the second quarter to give the Hornets a 20-6 halftime lead. He also had touchdown runs of 14 yards in the first quarter, 8 yards in the second and 22 yards in the fourth.

Thoughts on your performance against Carbondale Area: Since sophomore year, I’ve always been the workhorse. I always come into every week expecting to carry the ball 30, 40 times. I just make sure in the week leading up I go 100 percent in practice. That way my body is ready and fully conditioned and I can just go out there and play every single snap of the game.

Only carrying 18 times must have felt like a light workload: It feels nice when you can run the ball, get a couple chunk plays and hand the ball of to somebody else. You look at the backfield corps, we’ve got Gino (Patrisso), Turk (Brentley Acker), Dontae (Joseph), Manny (Edwards). I know when we give them the ball, I have confidence they’re going to pick up 8, 9 yards. It’s nice to know when I break an 80-yard run and am gassed, I can get a break and they can carry the load, too.

Carbondale Area scored on the opening drive, but you guys answered on your first possession. How big was that?: It was big because you can’t start to have doubt. I feel with every sport, when you go down two scores, your team can start to lose confidence. So when they scored first and we come back with a power drive, out there for five or six minutes, pounding the ball every single play and getting that score, it’s really big for our boys to know we’re a better team and can handle it.

Talk about the consecutive long touchdown runs in the second quarter: On that play, my boy Bobby (MacDowell) — best lineman I’ve ever had, I will say that — pulled for me and I get right behind him and follow him. My backside tackle Charlie (Smith) gave a down block on the backside backer. We prep that play week after week after week in practice. Every single time I make the same exact cut in practice. When you come out and do something you’ve done so many times in practice, it becomes muscle memory. I knew my line would get it done for me.

The team is off to a 3-1 start. How do you keep the momentum going?: I’m definitely pleased because I don’t think we’ve been 3-1 in about 15 years. It’s a really good way to start. Buy you’ve got to have the mentality that you’re not satisfied yet. You can’t look at your record and say, ‘We’re 3-1, we’re doing great.’ No. This week we’ve got Crestwood and we’re starting 0-0. You’ve got to come out and take it week to week.

Goals for this season: The No. 1 goal is to stay healthy, obviously. For the team, at Honesdale we have never won a district playoff game. We’re really clawing at that this year, trying to get a top seed and get a home playoff game. Personally, I’m just trying to build off last year. I had about 1,300 yards last year, so I want to get more than that. Seventeen touchdowns last year, I want to get more than that. You’re always looking to improve, you never want to have a down year, especially when it’s your senior year. I’m just really trying to improve on last year.

Favorite school subject: Math. I’m really good at the application process of school and that’s really the main subject where you can do that.

Athletes I admire: Christian McCaffrey. He’s always battled injuries throughout his career, just like I did when I had knee surgery this past year. The way he bounces back from everything and his motivational process. I really like following all that.

Superstitions and rituals: It’s not really me, but the team. In basketball and football, we decide what we’re wearing that week jersey-wise based on how we performed wearing it in the past. That’s why we wore the all-reds this week because we’re 2-0 wearing the all-reds. Coach Howanitz asks the four captains what we’re thinking and feeling that week.

If I could have any superpower, it would be: Time control

Funniest teammate: Damian Davis. I don’t know how, but whenever someone says something, he literally always has a joke to counter it.

Future plans: I plan to attend a four-year university and play football. I’ve been in touch with a lot of colleges. I’m just trying to keep my options open to the best of my ability until toward the end of the season. Go on some gameday visits and see where I’m going. But I definitely want to go to a four-year school, play football and major in physical therapy, sports medicine, anything along those lines.
