PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) — Philadelphia police are searching for at least two men believed to be responsible for a series of strong-arm robberies targeting women who were entering or leaving banks in Northeast Philadelphia.

Investigators from the Northeast Detective Division said they are aware of four robberies that have occurred during the past six weeks.

Surveillance video captured one of the attacks outside a Bank of America branch in the 9500 block of Bustleton Avenue. That robbery took place Aug. 21.

Capt. Jack Ryan of Northeast Detectives said the suspects have been selective in choosing their victims.

“It is people operating cars targeting women who have left the bank. And in one instance, she was entering the bank with a deposit,” Ryan said.

Police said images from the investigations show the suspects used a different vehicle during each robbery. Investigators also said at least one of the vehicles involved was stolen.

Detectives are continuing to investigate whether the suspects may be connected to additional crimes.

“Right now, we have four for certain. They are all linked to a geographic area and M.O.,” Ryan said.

Authorities said at least two people are involved in the robberies, including a getaway driver. Investigators are asking for the public’s help in identifying a man shown in surveillance images who is believed to have carried out the robberies.

Police said all four robberies occurred in broad daylight between 11:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. Three victims were pushed to the ground and suffered minor injuries. One of the victims is an 80-year-old woman.

“He is targeting vulnerable women leaving the bank. We need someone to step up,” Ryan said.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Northeast Detectives.
