BERN TWP., Pa. — For drivers on Route 183, the concerns are nothing new. Traffic, speeding, and intersections that can be difficult to navigate.
“The biggest complaint we get with phone calls is the intersections at different locations throughout 183,” said State Rep. Eric Weaknecht.
Weaknecht says drivers have complained about getting onto the highway and making left turns across heavy traffic.
Then there’s rush hour.
“The aggressive driving during rush hour. People late for work, driving a little bit too fast, trying to get there. It’s really a problem,” Weaknecht said.
He says traffic has increased as more people travel between Berks and Schuylkill counties for work.

So, he’s bringing PennDOT, state and local police, county planners and municipal officials together with residents Tuesday evening at the Reading Regional Airport.
“So that we can get them to tell us exactly what’s happening with Route 183, answer questions, and give, most importantly, a timeline for those changes and improvements to be made,” Weaknecht said.
But right now, even Weaknecht says he doesn’t know exactly what those improvements will look like.
“Actually, I don’t know. So, I’m going to be learning as well this evening,” Weaknecht said.
The meeting is scheduled to begin at 6:30 p.m. Weaknecht said more than 130 people had RSVP’d ahead of the meeting.
