Uptown Flats opens in Pittsburgh to provide affordable housing
PITTSBURGH —
Allegheny County officials celebrated the completion of Uptown Flats, a new effort to expand access to safe and affordable housing.
Located at Fifth Avenue and Stevenson Street, the new development provides housing for people experiencing homelessness and people with disabilities who are trying to get stable housing.
The building has amenities such as a community room and an outdoor courtyard, and there are offices for supportive services.
“To go somewhere like this is a miracle to me,” said Donna G., a resident of Uptown Flats. “I’m just starting college again. My birthday is tomorrow, so it’s almost like a birthday gift. I’m looking forward to peace and quiet, and being able to study there and have my first place of my own.”
Uptown Flats is part of a partnership with Bethlehem Haven and Action Housing. Residents living in the apartments will pay no more than 30% of their income toward rent.
