AVOCA BOROUGH, LUZERNE CO. (WOLF) — Wilkes Barre /Scranton International Airport is still searching for a director after their former frontrunner bowed out.
Last month, the airport’s board voted to hire Kim Hopper as executive director after a month’s long search.
Hopper was expected to start November 1st but after negotiating, the airport board announced that they were unable to agree on the terms of the contract and that Hopper had withdrawn himself from consideration.
Now the board is back on the hunt, but they said that the lack of an executive director isn’t a cause for concern.
“The airport’s under stable leadership, and it has been throughout this process,” said Chris Belles, the interim chair of the airport’s board. “None of our systems are, you know, suffering from this process. And we’re really just dedicated to going through this the correct way and getting the best possible person to lead the airport.”
The airport board is now looking for a new candidate with their pick to be announced at a later date.
No changes to the airport or to flight schedules are planned.
