Louis Sophie, 46, of Southampton Road in Philadelphia, was convicted following a waiver trial before Bucks County Common Pleas Court Judge Wallace H. Bateman Jr., according to the Bucks County District Attorney’s Office.
The charges stem from an attack at the Lafayette Gardens apartment complex at 520 Bristol Pike in Bensalem Township around 2:48 p.m. on Oct. 28, 2025.
Sophie entered the woman’s apartment through an unlocked front door, grabbed her, and began taking off his clothes, police said. At the time of his arrest, Bensalem Township police said Sophie told the woman she “looks tasty.”
The woman screamed for help and fought back, forcing Sophie to flee the apartment, investigators said.
He escaped on foot, crossing Poquessing Creek from Bensalem into Philadelphia.
Bensalem officers flooded the surrounding area and soon stopped Sophie at the Sunoco station at Frankford Avenue and Knights Road in Philadelphia. He matched the woman’s description and was identified as her attacker, police said.
Investigators also determined Sophie was a registered sex offender.
During Wednesday’s trial, the woman testified about the attack and her struggle against Sophie. Several Bensalem Township police officers testified about their response, evidence collected at the scene, and the search that led to his arrest shortly after the attack, according to the DA’s office.
Sophie was convicted of two counts of first-degree felony burglary, two counts of third-degree felony criminal trespassing, simple assault, attempted indecent assault without consent, and attempted indecent assault by forcible compulsion.
Deputy District Attorney Monica W. Furber prosecuted the case.
Bucks County District Attorney Joe Khan praised the woman’s actions, the rapid police response, and Furber’s prosecution following the conviction.
Judge Bateman deferred sentencing pending an evaluation by the Sexual Offender Assessment Board.
