Abington Heights and Scranton Prep, the top two teams in the Lackawanna League Division I, set up a much-anticipated rematch in girls tennis with convincing wins Wednesday.

Abington Heights defeated Delaware Valley, 5-0. Scranton Prep beat Holy Cross, 5-0. The two traditional power programs will play Friday at the Scranton Prep Tennis Complex.

If Abington Heights (10-0) wins, it will capture the Lackawanna League Division I title. If Scranton Prep (10-1) wins, the two will be tied. Abington Heights will still have one league match remaining.

Lackawanna League tennis president Mark Seitzinger is awaiting an official LIAA ruling if the teams tie. They could be co-champions or could need a third meeting to determine the title winner.

The District 2 Team Championship playoffs begin Friday, Oct. 2.

In the first meeting, Abington Heights won a thrilling 3-2 match, ending Scranton Prep’s Lackawanna League winning streak at 62 matches.

Abington Heights’ Kate Arp won an intense No. 2 singles match, beating Adithi Velaga, 6-7 (7), 6-3, 7-6 (4). Arp’s win locked down the victory.

Abington Heights recently won the Altoona Mountain Lion Tournament, beating Central Cambria, 5-0, and Altoona, 4-1. Freshman Addie Stark is 8-1 at No. 1 singles this season. Arp is undefeated at No. 2 singles in the league at 8-0, and Amishi Amit, who had a win at No. 3 singles against Scranton Prep in the first meeting, is 10-0 in the league.

Scranton Prep won seven straight matches by 5-0 scores since the loss to Abington Heights. Lily Lengyel is 11-0 at No. 1 singles, while Velaga and LaCoe are 10-1 at No. 2 and No. 3, respectively, for the Classics.

Abington Heights 5, Delaware Valley 0: At Abington Heights, Stark, Arp and Amit won singles matches in straight sets, keeping the Lady Comets undefeated in Division I play.

Cam Forgione won in singles, and the doubles team of Isabella Forgione-Olivia Pionzio had wins for the Lady Trojans.

Girls volleyball

Layla Marino had seven aces, including her 70th this season, leading Division II leader Valley View to a 3-0 (25-13, 25-12, 25-20) win over West Scranton in the Lackawanna League.

Marino also added five kills and four digs, Monica Orellana contributed seven digs and three aces and Delaney Washo had three kills and five aces for the Cougars (7-0).

Sydney Williams had 12 digs and three aces, and Sophia DeLuca had nine digs, three kills and three aces for West Scranton (3-4).

Mid Valley 3, Susquehanna 0: At Susquehanna, Olivia Parry had 16 assists and Krista Demboski had eight kills, leading the Spartanettes to a 25-18, 25-7, 26-24 win in Division II.

Aubrey Comstock had six kills and three aces, and Kate Coviello recorded six aces for Mid Valley (6-1).

Leading Susquehanna (2-5), Lauren Huyck had 13 assists and three blocks, Piper Heller contributed nine digs and three aces and Jordyn Spoor had five kills and five digs.

Lakeland 3, Lackawanna Trail 0: At Lakeland, Meadow Biamonte had 18 service points, eight aces, six digs and five kills, leading the Lady Chiefs to a 25-13, 25-6, 25-14 win in Division II.

Riley Ganz added 12 service points; Adeline Biondo had nine digs and seven service points, and Jada Chavies had 15 service points and 16 assists for Lakeland (5-2).

Elizabeth Harvey had nine digs, four service points and three kills for Lackawanna Trail (1-6). Sara Drake contributed eight digs, and Madeleine Forrer had five service points, three kills and six digs.

Elk Lake 3, Forest City 0: At Elk Lake, Aleece Greenley had 15 kills, six digs and nine service points, leading the Lady Warriors to a 25-18, 25-20, 25-12 win in Division II.

Mia Blair had 15 assists and eight service points, Morgan Aukema had six kills and five service points, Ava Newhart had eight service points and Kaydence Castellano had six service points and four digs for the Lady Warriors (4-3).

Amethyst Kealoha-Silva had seven service points and three kills for Forest City (0-7). Rayn Conrad added three kills and two blocks, and Bella Bilsky had 10 digs for the Lady Foresters.

Field hockey

Alana Edwards had two goals and an assist, leading Lackawanna Trail to a 6-0 win over Wilkes-Barre Area in a Wyoming Valley Conference Division I match.

Lyla Ryon added a goal and an assist; London Lisk, Kacie Higgins and Mackenzie Bennett each had goals and Emma Thomas had two assists for the Lady Lions (5-0).

Boys golf

Sebastian Meyer had birdies on Nos. 1 and 2 and shot an even-par 36 to lead Abington Heights to a 150-188 victory over North Pocono in a Lackawanna League Division I boys golf match at Elmhurst.

Cole Severs birdied the fourth hole and shot a 37, Ryan Boyd birdied the second and eighth holes and shot a 38, Gavin Peters birdied the second hole and shot a 39 and Connor O’Malley Kalinoski, who birdied No. 8, and William Yoo each shot a 42 for the Comets.

Dylan Hunter shot a 44 for the Trojans.

Susquehanna’s Josey Kelly (21:20.18) and Kiera Burke (21:33.06) placed second and fourth, respectively, and Mountain View’s Audrey Anderson (22:33.30) placed fifth.
