ALLENTOWN, Pa. – A local festival making its return this weekend is putting creativity on display that’s woven into the fabric of our communities.
69 News Reporter Sydney Kay was in Allentown with how it’s bringing creative minds together from across the area.
The Lehigh Valley Fiber Festival returns Saturday at the Allentown Agri-Plex. It’ll run from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday. Admission is $5 a day, and $8 for the weekend.
There will be free on-site parking.
The festival’s website says the event celebrates fiber arts from farm to finish. Guests will be able to collect fleeces, hand-dyed yarn, and handcrafted gifts. The festival will feature live demonstrations and talented artisans, the website says.
Allison Mackenzie, Co-founder of Ah-Ha! Event Management, said the festival has something for everybody. It has jewelers making shawl pins and glass artists making buttons. If it’s fiber-related, the festival has it.
Guests can participate in a community project where they can make blanket squares and donate them. People can also donate readymade hats and scarves.
if people have extra yarn left over after a project, you can give it to festival organizers, who will put it in the hands of those who can use it to make blankets, hats, and scarves. Those items are then donated to the Allentown Rescue Mission, Turning Point of the Lehigh Valley, and other organizations, she said.
Ah-Ha! Event Management Co-founder Hedge Becker said some people create goods from recycled fabric.
Martina Hilken, with Bags by Martina, said this will be her fifth year at the festival. She said it takes a good 45 minutes to an hour to make one of her bags.
She said she enjoys the friendly atmosphere, the guests, and the organizers.
“It’s just a lovely show to go to,” she said.
