CUMRU TWP., Pa. – A jury convicted a man accused of stabbing his uncle 8 times in Cumru Township, Berks County.
James Rice was convicted by a jury this week of attempted murder and related offenses, the Berks County District Attorney’s Office said in a Facebook post.
In October 2025, Rice went to his relative’s house and stabbed the victim eight times, the DA’s office said.
The victim was working outside a home in the 1700 block of Acorn Drive when he was approached by Rice, who stabbed him several times, police said. The victim was then taken to the hospital for treatment.
The DA’s office said following the incident, Rice fled to Maryland, where he was apprehended by authorities several hours later.
His sentencing has been scheduled for Oct. 23.
The case was investigated by Cumru Township Police Department Det. Kolk and tried by ADA Colin Boyer.
Police did not say what events may have led up to the stabbing.
