An Allentown man faces multiple felony counts after he was charged with the rape of an East Stroudsburg University of Pennsylvania student.
According to the criminal complaint, Pennsylvania State Police Stroudsburg Station was notified by staff of Lehigh Valley Hospital-Pocono about a reported sexual assault on Sept. 12 at 7 p.m. An 18-year-old female reported that she had been raped in her campus dorm room at 5 a.m. that day.
State Trooper Jeremy Kenosky responded to the hospital’s emergency department and met with the woman. The woman told Kenosky that she had been speaking with a man she knew, later identified as Edmoh Sheriff, 20, who she had first met at a house party three to four months earlier.
Kenosky wrote the woman said the two made plans to attend a house party in Tobyhanna on Sept. 11 but decided to stay in her dorm room instead. At one point on the morning of Sept. 12, Sheriff and the woman engaged in consensual sexual activities, but after she declined penetrative sex, he initiated it anyway for around 5 minutes.
The woman told Kensoky she believed Sheriff was 19 years old and was not a student at ESU, and provided a photo of him, as well as an apologetic text message and missed calls from Sheriff.
Sheriff was identified through a PennDOT inquiry for a name on a Cashapp account, according to the complaint. On Sept. 13, Kenosky, in coordination with the woman under authorization from Monroe County Assistant District Attorney Chad Martinez, conducted a phone intercept between the woman and Sheriff. During the phone intercept, according to the criminal complaint, Sheriff admitted to the woman’s account of what happened.
Sheriff was charged with first-degree felony rape by forcible compulsion, second-degree felony sexual assault, two second-degree felonies of aggravated indecent assault, first- and second-degree misdemeanors of indecent assault and a citation of harassment.
He has a preliminary hearing scheduled in front of Magisterial District Court 43-2-02 Judge Michael Wolbert on Sept. 29.
