Collier Township residents worried about 7 Brew entrance in their neighborhood

UPDATE: Collier Township Manager George Macino provided the site plan which shows 7 Brew traffic will exit onto Landgraf Avenue. Landgraf Avenue will not be used as an entrance point.

ORIGINAL: A popular drive-thru coffee chain coming to Collier Township is raising concerns about traffic and safety in an adjacent neighborhood.

The new 7 Brew will be located on Washington Pike at the site of the former Arby’s.

“When they first announced the 7 Brew was coming in, we didn’t really have much information,” Kirwan Heights resident Patience Minella told Pittsburgh’s Action News 4 Reporter Jordan Cioppa. “We were all kind of angry about it because we were worried that something might happen where there would be an entry or an exit way onto our street.”

Minella lives on Landgraf Avenue, a small residential side street next to the construction site.

This week, she noticed crews built what township officials confirmed will be an entrance into the drive-thru-only coffee shop on Landgraf Avenue.

7 Brew locations nationwide have been known to cause traffic backups, especially during giveaway events.

“Everyone knows what happens when a 7 Brew goes in, and this street is not sustainable for a 7 Brew,” Minella said.

Minella and her neighbors said they are concerned about the safety implications that could come from increased traffic on Landgraf Avenue.

“We are concerned about the traffic. We are concerned about the children. Especially even the cars that we park on the side of the road,” Julie Galla said.

Collier Township Manager George Macino said 7 Brew’s primary entrance, in addition to the exit, will be located on Washington Pike.

He added that a small concrete barrier will be added to prevent customers from exiting onto Landgraf Avenue.

“We did take this through our planning commission. It has been reviewed by our engineering firm,” Macino said. “We are very convinced that this is the absolute best possible way for traffic to be managed into and out of the 7 Brew location.”

An opening date for the 7 Brew has not been set yet, township officials said.
