The City of Pittsburgh Celebrates 25 Years of Alphabet Trail and Tales!
The beloved CitiParks event returns to Frick Park this Saturday, September 26 at 10 a.m.
Pittsburgh, PA – The City of Pittsburgh’s Department of Parks and Recreation (CitiParks) is excited to celebrate the 25th Annual Alphabet Trail and Tales at Frick Park’s Blue Slide Playground on September 26, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
One of the largest reading events in the region, Alphabet Trail and Tales is free to the public. It includes larger-than-life story sets from A-Z across more than a half-mile of trails throughout Frick Park. Professional storytellers, artists, entertainers, and local youth-serving organizations will come together to join the community along the Alphabet Trail. There will also be music, games, art, crafts, and more activities for the whole family.
“If we want Pittsburgh to be every family’s first choice, traditions like Alphabet Trail and Tales help us to meet that goal,” said Mayor Corey O’Connor. “I’m so thankful to the entire team at CitiParks for all the work that they put into our programming year-round and congratulate them on this milestone anniversary.”
Partner organizations include the Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh presenting Pennsylvania’s “One Book, Every Child” 2026 selection, The Great Cookie Kerfuffle written by Jessica Shaw and illustrated by Pauline Gregory, as well as Pittsburgh Puppet Works, the Carnegie Museum of Art, Reading Is Fundamental, Animal Friends, Eat’n Park and many more.
“CitiParks is committed to not only continuing beloved events like Alphabet Trail and Tales, but enhancing and expanding our programming across our parks, recreation centers, and senior centers,” said Director of Parks and Recreation Eric Sloan. “After a great summer season of pools, movies, and concerts, we’re so excited to kick off the fall with this annual event.”
CitiParks continues its fall and winter season with the Richard S. Caliguiri City of Pittsburgh Great Race, Track and Treat, the Gingerbread House Display and Competition, new seasonal hours at the Henry W. Oliver Bath House, and much more.
