Western Pennsylvania officers train for street survival at Monroeville Convention Center
MONROEVILLE, Pa. —
The Western Pennsylvania Chiefs of Police Association sponsored a street survival seminar at the Monroeville Convention Center, with roughly 40 departments participating.
The seminar, which addressed how officers can be killed or injured in the line of duty, was aimed at preparing officers to make reasonable decisions to preserve the lives of citizens and themselves.
Allegheny County Housing Authority Police Chief Mike Vogel, an executive board member of the association, said the group has a committee that reviews training annually to determine what is best suited for their departments and officers.
“There’s 111 police officers killed in the line of duty last year throughout the nation, and we want to prevent that from happening. Every officer deserves to come to work and provide a service to their constituents, but they deserve to go home at the end of their shift,” Vogel said.
Thursday’s seminar was presented by Caliber Press, the largest law enforcement training company in America.
