• The Rev. Dr. Adam Herndon will be the new senior pastor at Park Road Presbyterian Church, 1045 N. Park Road, Wyomissing. Herndon was previously pastor at Park Street Church in Boston. He received a bachelor of arts degree from Liberty University, a master of divinity from Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary and a doctor of ministry from Fuller Theological Seminary. Herndon is a chaplain in the Air Force, serving as a wing chaplain, with the rank of lieutenant colonel. In 2024 he was deployed for six months to Qatar. Herndon and his wife, Jessica, have three children, Levi, Luke and Maggie.
• McGlinn Conference and Spirituality Center, 460 St. Bernardine Street, Reading, will offer an afternoon reflection on Sept. 27 from 1-4 p.m.: “A Commemoration of the 800th Anniversary of the Death of St. Francis of Assisi — Will the Real Francis Please Stand Up?” by Sister Roberta McKelvie and “Following Francis: Doing What is Ours to Do” by Sister Patrice Klausing. • Theology with a Twist kicks off its 20th season with “Asset Mapping: Creative Ways to Use What Your Church Already Has” on Oct. 7 at 7 p.m. at Kutztown Tavern, 272 W. Main St., Kutztown. Does your church have a cluttered room filled with Junk for Jesus? Those items that people won’t throw out so they donate it to the church. How about a big empty social hall? A parking lot, boxes of old hymnals? In this presentation, the Rev. Becky Sausser will provide you with the framework to do some asset mapping and begin using the things you already have to do ministry you never imagined. Sausser is an Allentown resident who serves as the head pastor at St. John’s United Church of Christ n Allentown, home of a nonprofit community hub that houses 7 nonprofits, 2 community groups, and 1 loving congregation. She is a self-proclaimed Bible nerd who has a deep reverence for scripture. Gather in the upper room of the tavern. The event is free but food and drink can be purchased in the restaurant downstairs and brought up to the event space. Parking is available in the community lot behind the tavern or on Main Street.
• A Christian pet loss support group will be held at St. John’s Reformed Church, 4001 Penn Ave., Sinking Spring. The next meeting will be held in the church’s fellowship hall on Oct. 5 at 6:45 p.m. Sessions are led by Dr. Becky Frank, associate veterinarian with Lap of Love Veterinary Hospice. Frank is also certified in thanatology (death, loss, grief, and bereavement). The program entails six different sessions and participants may join at any time. • Nativity Lutheran Church, 1501 N. 13th St., Reading, will have a grab-n-go spaghetti dinner on Thursday from 3-6 p.m. Dinner includes spaghetti, meatballs, salad and roll. Cost is $10. • St. John’s Gernant’s Church (A Federated Congregation), 13 Gernant’s Church Road, Ontelaunee Township, will worship Sunday at 9:30 a.m. in the Memorial Hall. The Wyomissing Band will be performing. Fellowship will follow the service. Sunday is also, Jingle Sunday with the collecting of coins and paper money to be donated to Opportunity House. Bible study will be held on Tuesday at 1 p.m.
• The Rev. Brad Mellon will lead worship and present the sermon on 9 a.m. on Sunday at Christ Lutheran Church, 222 Niantic Road, Douglass Township, Montgomery County. Harvest Home will be observed with the receiving of non-perishable food items and donations for Boyertown Multi-Service. Coffee and Conversation will be held at 8:30 and 10 in the Welcome Center.
• The Lutheran Church of the Holy Trinity, 102 Apple St., will hold its annual Apple Dumpling sale on Oct. 15. Pick up between 4 and 6 p.m. Dumplings are $5 each and can be preordered by calling Phillys at 610-926-1004. The last day to order is Oct. 4.

Non-perishable food will be collected and displayed to benefit the Northern Berks Food Pantry and Keystone Military Families. A drive-thru pre-ordered favorite (bazaar) foods sale will be held on Oct. 10 from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Food must be pre-ordered and paid for by Oct. 4. • The Blessing of Animals in Honor of St. Francis of Assisi, hosted by All Souls ECC in partnership with Centre Park Historic District, will take place next Saturday at 11 a.m., in Centre Park, Centre Avenue, in Reading. Make sure your pet is leashed or in a carrier. Donations of pet food will be accepted to distribute to local animal shelters. There will be representatives from local rescues at the event with some adoptable pets. For those who have lost a pet, bring photo, and it will displayed on a table. Your pet will be recognized and blessed.
