Edgewood police say racist flyers found in yards exploit recent tragedy to spread hate
EDGEWOOD, Pa. —
Racist flyers are being found in yards in an Allegheny County neighborhood.
The Edgewood Police Department put out a statement following the discovery, telling the community there is “no place here for racism, hatred, or messages intended to divide or intimidate our neighbors.”
“Sadly, there are those who attempt to use tragedy and difficult moments to spread hate or further their own agendas. Those actions do not represent the values of our community,” the post reads, in part.
The department did not elaborate on what tragedy they were referring to, however, days early UPMC Dr. Idris Evans was stabbed multiple times inside his Edgewood home.
While Pittsburgh Action News 4 was on Allenby Avenue, we found two bags containing the flyers in yards.
The Edgewood Police Department reaffirmed their commitment to keeping the community safe, saying they will be present and engaged for all those who need it.
If you have concerns, you are asked to contact the department.
