Pennsylvania State Police and the Pa. Turnpike Commission are cracking down on drivers who repeatedly don’t pay tolls.

They are launching a statewide toll enforcement initiative in October to target those driving with suspended registrations because of unpaid tolls, police said in a news release.

Troopers may issue tickets, and may impound vehicles driven by drivers with suspended registrations.

It comes after a similar statewide initiative in the spring, that resulted in more than 200 traffic stops and prompted drivers to make payments, police said.

During the single-day crackdown, troopers made more than 200 traffic stops, netting 23 drivers who owed more than $130,000 in tolls.

In another case, police stopped a driver who owed more than $100,000 in unpaid tolls, officials said.

Drivers who accrue $250 in unpaid tolls and fees, or four unpaid TollByPlate invoices, are referred to PennDOT for registration suspension.
