PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) — An 83-year-old woman was struck by stray gunfire Wednesday evening while sitting on the porch of her North Philadelphia home.
The shooting happened just before 5 p.m. on the 2300 block of North Gratz Street.
Investigators said surveillance video shows a gunman exiting a blue stolen sedan and opening fire down the block.
According to Chief Inspector Scott Small, approximately 40 shots were fired. The crime scene stretched the length of the block between Dauphin and York streets.
The woman was struck twice in the torso and rushed to a nearby hospital. Police said she is listed in stable condition.
Authorities also found a white sedan at the scene that had been hit multiple times by gunfire.

“It jumped the curb and struck a telephone pole, breaking it, causing that wooden telephone pole to actually be still laying on top of that vehicle,” Small said of the vehicle. “The vehicle had the engine running.”
Police said no one was inside the white sedan when officers arrived, but a firearm was found in plain view inside.
Investigators are reviewing surveillance video from the area and working to determine what led to the shooting.
The stolen blue sedan was last seen fleeing eastbound on Dauphin Street from Gratz Street toward 18th Street.
No other injuries were immediately reported.
