PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) — A cyclist from Philadelphia’s Fishtown section began a three-day, 240-mile cross-country relay on Thursday.

The relay ride helps raise money and awareness for cancer research, and comes as Breast Cancer Awareness Month kicks off.

Denny Lai says his mission is personal.

His grandmother had breast cancer and passed away in 2019.

Lai is now part of a nine-member relay team for Bristol Myers Squibb’s Coast 2 Coast 4 Cancer ride.

The journey started in Oregon and ends in Longwood, New Jersey, on October 7.

Lai’s portion is from Indianapolis, Indiana, to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

He says he got a lot of support from his neighbors in Philadelphia during his training.

The goal is to raise $1 million.
