WHITEHALL TWP., Pa. — A Pennsylvania court has ordered the Whitehall-Coplay School District to resume bus service for charter students.
The order, issued Thursday, said the district must reinstate district transportation for charter school students no later than Monday, Oct. 5.
District Superintendent Christopher Schiffert told 69 News that district busing for charter students will resume on Monday.
‘Would you put your kid on a public bus at 12?’: Charter schools, parents sue Whitehall-Coplay over end of bus service
Six charter schools sued the district after it stopped busing kids 12 and up in those schools as a cost-saving measure. Instead, the district said those kids can either switch to a public school or take LANTA public transportation.
The suit argued the new policy violated the Equal Protection and Education Clauses of the Pennsylvania Constitution.
Court hearings on the case were held in the Commonwealth Court of Pennsylvania earlier this week.
