The project converted 62 licensed nursing home beds into 49 private assisted living apartments, each featuring a private bathroom and shower, kitchenettes, gathering spaces, fireplaces and scenic views overlooking the community’s pond.
The redesigned neighborhood supports aging in place by combining greater privacy, comfort and independence with the support residents need.
The renovation reflects the organization’s commitment to providing a more resident-centered approach to care and to improve the quality of life for residents.
“Our goal was to create an environment residents were looking for, and where they can enjoy greater independence while continuing to receive the support they need,” said Kristen Santangelo, vice president of Operations and Health Services for Aspire for Well-Being. “These renovations allow us to provide high-quality care in a setting that feels more like home and gives our caregivers more opportunities to focus on what matters most — the residents.”
By converting skilled nursing to assisted living, The Highlands at Wyomissing reduces the extensive documentation requirements associated with federally regulated skilled nursing facilities.
The expanded assisted living model allows caregivers to spend more time focused on residents and personalized care.
The Highlands at Wyomissing has full-time licensed practical nurses and registered nurses on staff, providing higher-acuity residents with the support they need and allowing residents to fully age in place.
