The owner of a recently purchased property in Reading discovered human remains on Friday, according to the Reading Police Department.

Police said that at approximately 4:46 p.m. on Oct. 2, officers were dispatched to a property in the 500 block of South 6th Street for a security check. When officers arrived, the property owner told them they had discovered what “appeared to be” human remains.

Members of the Reading Police Department’s Patrol Division and Criminal Investigations Division responded and requested help from the Berks County Coroner’s Office.

A deputy coroner confirmed that the remains were human, according to officials.

Police said the investigation remains active, adding that the incident appears to be isolated and there is no active threat to the public.
