Philadelphia’s ghost stories are getting a sweet new twist this Halloween.

Shane Confectionery in Old City has unveiled its limited-edition Haunted Philadelphia Halloween Box, featuring chocolates and confections inspired by real paranormal experiences and local legends. Only 125 boxes are being made, with pre-orders open now and pickup beginning October 5.

Earlier this year, Shane Confectionery asked Philadelphians to submit their personal paranormal experiences. The candy shop received stories ranging from funny to frightening and selected several to inspire this year’s Halloween collection.

Each eerie black-and-silver box contains 14 chocolates and confections, with two of each of seven different pieces. Most of the flavors are staying secret until the collection is revealed on October 5, adding some mystery to the experience.

One confection that has been revealed is the Sparkling Champagne Pate de Fruit, inspired by a phantom party in a former hotel. The treat is made with prosecco and popping sugar.

More Than Just Halloween Candy

The Shane Confectionery Haunted Philadelphia Halloween Box is designed to offer more than sweets. Each box includes an illustrated zine exploring the ghost stories and history behind the hauntings, complete with a bibliography for those interested in digging deeper. There’s also a beeswax ghost-shaped candle from Philadelphia Bee Co.

Shane suggests turning off the lights, lighting the candle and reading the stories with a friend while tasting the confections.

Those who don’t want the full box can still get in on the spooky fun. Individual pieces from the collection will be available in Shane’s chocolate case and can be added to custom assortments in the store while supplies last.
