Erie police are investigating after a man said a masked person stabbed him in the stomach on the city’s west side early Oct. 5.

The 31-year-old man, whose name was not released, was being treated at UPMC Hamot following the stabbing, which was reported Oct. 5 at about 1:20 a.m. in the 600 block of West 18th Street, Erie police Deputy Chief Ken Kensill said.

The man told police he was approached by a person wearing a mask who stabbed him in the area of West 19th or West 20th and Poplar streets, Kensill said.

Officers went to the area but found no suspects and did not find a blood trail, Kensill said.
