Dozens of custom orders from a local embroidery store are being fulfilled thanks to another local business stepping in to help.
When Preppy Pickle owner Christine Myers passed away unexpectedly last month, Jess Royer, owner of Royer Threads, was asked to take over Myers’ unfinished orders.
Royer said it was an honor to be able to help.
Royer has been operating Royer Threads out of her home for the past six years. She started by creating children’s clothing before expanding into custom embroidery orders.
When she was approached about taking over the Preppy Pickle orders following Myers’ death, she immediately said yes. According to Royer, “I was very honored to be approached to acquire Preppy Pickle. The Erie community lost an amazing person, an amazing business. Many people looked up to her very much, so when I was approached to potentially take over everything, yes, yes, I can do that.”
Royer received the unfinished orders, along with the machines, designs and logos. Her next challenge was figuring out who the remaining orders belonged to.
She turned to social media to help connect with customers. According to Royer, “I did a whole transition with an embroidery business post, and that got over 7,000 clicks and views, which is crazy for me. So that response was outstanding, and then I think from that post I only have two items left that don’t have homes.”
Royer is now balancing raising her young family, her own embroidery orders and the orders left behind by Preppy Pickle.
She said the work has been rewarding and that she feels honored to help carry on the legacy of another local creative business owner, “It’s amazing to even be considered to be that person for people, so being able to make sure all of these items have homes, it’s great because a lot of these customers didn’t know what was going to happen. They didn’t know where everything was going to go, so being that contact person has been wonderful.”
