PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) — A Philadelphia jury has found a mother and her boyfriend guilty on Monday in the death of a 4-year-old boy whose body was discovered more than a year after he was reported missing.
Damari Carter disappeared in 2023. In March 2024, investigators found his body inside a duffel bag on the 600 block of North 38th Street.
The child’s mother, Dominique Bailey, 33, and her boyfriend, Kevin Spencer, 33, were both charged in connection with the case.
According to court documents, Bailey witnessed Spencer repeatedly beat Damari, causing severe injuries, including a swollen head and blackened eyes.

An affidavit of probable cause stated that Bailey realized her son had died when she went to kiss him goodnight.
Investigators said surveillance video from a doorbell camera captured Spencer dragging a bag containing Damari’s body out of a home in Philadelphia’s Mantua neighborhood the following day.
Following a trial, the jury found both Bailey and Spencer guilty of multiple offenses, including third-degree murder and abuse of a corpse.
Sentencing for both defendants is scheduled for Dec. 4 at 9 a.m.
