Pennsylvania State Police have released new information about a multi-vehicle crash that shut down Interstate 90 in western Erie County Saturday night.

The crash happened around 7:15 p.m. in Springfield Township.

According to investigators, a car driven by 70-year-old Kim MacKeown of Streetsboro, Ohio, was traveling eastbound when, for unknown reasons, it ran off the north side of the interstate and crossed the median into westbound traffic.

State police say 57-year-old Michael Plybon of North Canton, Ohio, was unable to avoid the wrong-way vehicle and struck it.

The impact caused MacKeown’s vehicle to leave the roadway and overturn onto its roof. Plybon’s vehicle spun following the collision.

A third vehicle, a westbound bus driven by 45-year-old Luis Diaz-Olvera of Col Valle Dorado, Mexico, then struck Plybon’s spinning vehicle. The bus overturned and also ran off the roadway.

Police say MacKeown suffered serious injuries in the crash. Plybon suffered minor injuries, while Diaz-Olvera refused medical treatment.

The crash temporarily shut down I-90 in the area as emergency crews responded and investigators worked at the scene. All vehicles involved in the accident had to be towed from the scene.
