The price of groceries and of restaurant meals has skyrocketed in the past year and shows no sign of slowing down. So when we saw that our friends at Pittsburgh’s Public Source had created the $15ish Pittsburgh Meal Map, we wanted to make sure to share it with families in our region.
You can find the map right here. (It’s free to explore. You just need to enter an e-mail address.)
Sort of like the Fish Fry Map that Pittsburgh-area families use each spring to find affordable dinners during Lent, this new year-round resource created by Public Source lets you explore many different neighborhoods in search of a reasonably priced meal for your family.
We were also glad to see that restaurants cannot pay to be included in the map and the map’s creators aren’t given any free meals at restaurants they’ve included: “Public Source pays local creators for their reporting and content production. Restaurants do not pay to be included, and creators receive no compensation or free meals from the restaurants they feature,” says an announcement at the bottom of the map.
So far there are more than two dozen locations on the map and more will be added. (You can even suggest some: If you know of a Pittsburgh-area restaurant with a great meal around $15, you’re welcome to e-mail Public Source at social@publicsource.org.)
If you’re curious, you can learn more here about what inspired the Public Source team to create this resource for the community.
Happy dining, Kidsburgh families!
