PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) — One person was killed after a vehicle crashed into a U-Haul storage facility in Philadelphia’s Kensington section early Thursday, sparking a fire that drew a large emergency response.
Firefighters were called to the area of Lehigh and Kensington avenues around 5:15 a.m. for a reported fire in the building.
When crews arrived, they found a vehicle that had crashed into the facility.

Authorities said one person who was in the car was killed.
Video from the scene showed flames erupting from the building.

Footage submitted to the Citizen app captured the fire at its height, with the vehicle initially difficult to identify amid the flames.
The vehicle appeared to be elevated off the ground and may have struck the building while airborne.

The fire was placed under control about 30 minutes after firefighters arrived.
Officials have not said what caused the crash. Road closures remained in effect in the area as firefighters and other emergency personnel continued their response.
The investigation is ongoing.
