Oxford Area High School will be closed on Friday after it was confirmed that someone in the school community has a confirmed case of measles, according to the district’s superintendent.

The closure comes as school district works to verify that all staff members have immunity against the disease.

The Chester County Health Department is working with the Oxford Area School District to identify anyone who may have been exposed.

“The health and well-being of our students, staff, and community are incredibly important to us, and we recognize that receiving this information can raise questions, concerns, and uncertainty. Please know that we are working closely with the Chester County Health Department (CCHD) and are following their guidance every step of the way,” superintendent Dr. David Woods wrote in a statement.

According to Dr. Woods, the high school building has undergone enhanced cleaning procedures.

School officials say that any students or staff members who are not vaccinated or cannot prove their vaccination status that they cannot attend school or activities and they must quarantine for 21 days.

Pennsylvania passes 1,000 measles cases

The closure of Oxford Area High School comes just days after Pennsylvania reported reaching more than 1,000 measles cases.

According to CDC data as of Oct. 1, 2026, Pennsylvania is the state with the most measles cases in the country.

The total number of cases in the Philadelphia region was 95 as of Oct. 5, with the large majority being in Chester County:

Montgomery: 3

Northampton: 0

Philadelphia: 0
