More news and notables as the L-L League football season continues to chug right along:
1. A couple of Lampeter-Strasburg nuggets at the top: First and foremost, here’s putting a bow on K Peter Fiorello’s outstanding career. …. His final stat-line: 194-for-207 on PAT boots with 29 field goals. His career long was a 46-yarder this season. He also drilled 70-plus touchbacks, and he boomed nine field goals this season, including the two longest in the league so far in 2025: That 46-yarder, against Northern Lebanon, and a 44-yarder vs. Solanco. … He earned All-State status in 2024, and he should once again for his efforts this season. … Fiorello is part of a senior class that did some pretty great things for the Pioneers’ program: That group went 39-11 overall and 24-6 in L-L section games. They went to the postseason all four years, and in 2024, L-S won section and D3 titles on the way to the PIAA-4A state championship game. That’s a heck of a 4-year ride.

2. Wilson’s defense will be tested to the max on Friday, when the Bulldogs crash-land at Central York for a tasty D3-6A semifinal matchup between a couple of longtime D3 heavyweights. … CY QB Brooklyn Nace, an Old Dominion recruit, is having a whopper of a season in the pocket. Last week, in the Panthers’ 42-7 quarterfinal win over Cedar Cliff, Nace went — get this — 13-for-15 for 179 yards with five TD tosses — all to WR Brendyn Smith, who had six grabs for 115 yards and those five scores. … In 11 games, Nace is 178-for-228 (a very cool 78%) for 2,513 yards, with 34 TD tosses and just one INT. … Smith is at 70 catches for 1,116 yards with 21 TD grabs, and vet RB Legend Johnson, who rushed for 112 yards with a TD vs. Cedar Cliff, is at 1,094 rushing yards with 19 TD runs, as CY averages 400 yards and 46 points a game. … Panthers’ lone loss was a 46-21 setback against Archbishop Hoban (Akron, Ohio) back in Week 9. Hoban is 9-1 and is embarking on the playoffs in Ohio. … Wilson has 11 picks and has forced 19 turnovers, so the Bulldogs have been opportunistic. They’ll need to keep Nace and Johnson occupied in the backfield, and not let Smith roam free in space. … Five Wilson backfield-crashers to watch include: LB E.J. Brownback (108 tackles, 20 TFL, 3 sacks, 3 INT), DT Malachi Toles (39 tackles, 10 TFL, 4 sacks), DE Michael Glover (41 tackles, 8 TFL, 3 sacks), LB Matt Wyatt (37 tackles, 8 TFL) and DE Rahmel Gaston (25 tackles, 8 TFL, 1 sack) have brought down a lot of unsuspecting QBs and RBs this fall. They’ll need to dial up a big effort against CY, which is coached by former longtime Lebanon skipper Gerry Yonchiuk.Â

3. Berks Catholic’s top priority on Friday, when the Saints do battle against Trinity for D3-3A gold: Blanketing Shamrocks’ WR-DB Maddox Jarzynski, who is on some kind of a roll. … In the quarterfinals against Schuylkill Valley, Jarzynski had five catches for 116 yards with three TD grabs (66, 8, 19 yards, respectively) and he returned a blocked punt 28 yards for a TD. He also returned a kickoff 60 yards, and he recovered a fumble. … In the semifinals against Annville-Cleona, Jarzynski had four catches for 97 yards with three more TD grabs (32, 27, 25 yards, respectively) and he had a 69-yard pick-6 on D. … If you lost track, in two playoff games he has nine catches for 213 yards with six TD grabs, plus blocked-punt and pick-6 scores for eight TDs in eight quarters. Wow. … Two BC secondary patrolmen to know: DB Logan Gonzalez (23 tackles, 2 INT) and DB Aidan Curley (34 tackles, 3 TFL, 2 INT) simply can’t let Jarzynski dominate in space.Â
