DESTIN-FORT WALTON BEACH, Fla. (WPVI) — The S.S. United States is now one step closer to becoming the world’s largest artificial reef.

Officials have now set a date to sink the ship off the Gulf Coast of Florida.

Leaders in Okaloosa County, Florida, say the vessel will be deployed about 22 NM southwest of Destin-Fort Walton Beach, the second week of November 2026.
