The event had been scheduled for October 13 at the Bayfront Convention Center and was intended to serve as an interactive showcase of the Community School Model, highlighting the partnerships and programs that support students and families throughout Erie County.
In a statement released Monday, United Way leaders said the decision was made out of respect for the community as it continues to process the tragedy and support those affected.
“Our community is hurting, and right now our focus needs to be on supporting one another,” said United Way of Erie County President Mike Jaruszewicz. “United Way’s 2026 Assembly was intended to celebrate the people and partnerships that make Erie County stronger, but we recognize that this is a time to come together in a different way. Our thoughts are with the victims, their families, and everyone affected by this tragedy. We remain committed to standing alongside our community and helping ensure that those who need support can find it.”
United Way said its mission remains centered on strengthening the community through care, unity, and ensuring children and families have access to the support they need. Organization leaders noted that this is a time for reflection, compassion, and coming together to support one another.
The nonprofit expressed its condolences to the victims, their families, and all those impacted by the tragedy.
