WHITE OAK, Pa. —
Police say a woman escaped an alleged kidnapping by running into a Dollar Tree and hiding behind a bush after a man threatened to sexually assault her.
Marcus Render, 46, is being accused of taking a woman in his car, speeding off, and threatening to assault her this past Sunday.
According to a criminal complaint, police were called to a Dollar Tree in White Oak, where they found a woman hiding behind a bush, saying she was hiding from a man.
She told police that she and Render had been on a previous date. That day, when she entered Render’s car to look at a picture he was showing her, Render sped off, would not let her leave, and threatened to sexually assault her, according to the complaint.
When the victim told Render she didn’t want sex, he reportedly replied, “Oh, you don’t have a choice, you are little lady you are,” according to the criminal complaint.
The complaint continues, saying Render then parked and entered the Dollar Tree, which is when the victim escaped the car. She told police that she told a store employee that if anyone asked where she went, they didn’t see her.
According to texts, the victim showed police texts between her and Render after the incident. He told the victim that he was joking, and if she knew she was scared, he would have let her out, police said.
Police later found Render at his home. He told police that they had previously dated, but that the other accusations were not true, according to the complaint.
Render was arrested at his home.
Render is currently being held in Allegheny County Jail. His preliminary hearing is set for Oct. 26.
