Pittsburgh Police are seeking a Point Breeze man who they say struck a motorcyclist on Sept. 29 just a few feet away from their Western Avenue headquarters.

Kevin Crowder, 62, is charged with accidents involving personal injury, failure to stop and render aid, and failure to notify police in connection with the incident, which took place at the intersection of Western Avenue and Fontella Street in the North Side.

Following the crash, police said Crowder drove through the Manchester neighborhood, abandoned the blue Ford Explorer he was driving and fled the scene, according to court records. The motorcyclist was taken to a hospital with a broken ankle, a severe concussion and additional minor injuries, police said.

The SUV was registered to a woman from Lancaster. Police said their counterparts in Lancaster were not able to contact the woman, but told them that her boyfriend, Crowder, was known to take her vehicle. Police eventually spoke to the woman, who told them Crowder had taken her car in September and returned to Pittsburgh.

After obtaining warrants for camera footage from the area, detectives tracked the Explorer’s movements and recognized Crowder from previous arrest photos as well as body-camera footage from a Wilkins Township arrest earlier this year, according to an affidavit of probable cause.

A warrant was issued for his arrest.
