SCRANTON, LACKAWANNA CO. (WOLF) — A wanted Scranton man is accused of selling crack cocaine to a confidential informant before attempting to flee detectives and discard additional suspected drugs after his arrest.

Sharrieff D. Carter, 46, faces charges including delivery of a controlled substance, possession with intent to deliver, criminal use of a communication facility, escape, resisting arrest, tampering with evidence and related offenses.

According to the criminal complaint, Lackawanna County Drug Task Force detectives arranged a controlled purchase of crack cocaine on October 13. Investigators said they monitored communications arranging the meeting and watched Carter meet with the confidential informant.

Police allege the informant turned over suspected crack cocaine after the meeting. Detectives took Carter into custody near Linden Street and North Washington Avenue, where they said they recovered the prerecorded buy money and a cellphone.

The complaint alleges Carter told detectives he had additional crack cocaine concealed in his pants. While being taken from a police vehicle into the District Attorney’s Office, Carter allegedly ran through the parking lot and threw the suspected drugs to the ground. A detective tackled him and recovered the drugs, police said.

Investigators said the suspected crack cocaine field-tested positive and will be sent to the Pennsylvania State Police crime laboratory for further testing.
