Another Upper Darby council member is calling it quits.
Council President Hafiz Tunis Jr. announced Tuesday he is not running for re-election.
“After much thought and consideration, I have decided not to seek re-election to Upper Darby Township Council,” Tunis said in a post on social media. “As my term comes to an end, I am choosing to focus on my family, professional career, and the next chapter of my life:
Tunis joins fellow Democrat Democrat Andrew Hayman and Republicans Meaghan Wagner and Brian Andruszko, to decide not to run for re-election.
Tunis has been Councilman for the 7th District for over the past five years — and when he was appointed at just 23 years old, was the youngest council member at the time.
Tunis said he has dedicated myself to addressing the quality-of-life concerns that matter most to our community, from improving recreation opportunities to enhancing public safety and to make Upper Darby a better place for all.
He thanked the community for supporting him and is grateful for the opportunity and remains committed to the success of the township.
“I am deeply grateful to the residents of the 7th District for believing in me and entrusting me with the responsibility of representing you,“ he said. Your support, engagement, and passion for our community have inspired me every step of the way.”
