YORK COUNTY, Pa. (WHTM) — Tuesday night’s Hometown Heroes make it a point to cast their ballots every single year.

The York County Board of Elections and the Pennsylvania Department of State inducted 80 York County voters into the Pennsylvania Voter Hall of Fame on Tuesday during a ceremony at the York County Administrative Center.

These men and women have voted in every November election for at least 50 years in a row.

“Voting is every adult American citizen’s civic duty, and it is our opportunity to make a real difference in our community and our nation,” York County President Commissioner and Board of Elections President Julie Wheeler said in a press release. “Today, we are celebrating some of York County’s most dedicated and committed voters who have demonstrated for five consecutive decades that they truly care about citizenship, civic engagement, community and democracy.”

Pennsylvania Secretary of the Commonwealth Al Schmidt delivered a keynote address, recognizing the significance of the milestone.

“These voters are true role models of civic engagement and good citizenship,” Schmidt said. “I congratulate them for setting a powerful example that inspires the rest of us.”

There are now more than 1,000 voters in York County who have been inducted and over 25,000 voters statewide. The Pennsylvania Voter Hall of Fame was founded in 1986.
