Penn held its annual Flu Clinic earlier this month, vaccinating more than 7,000 community members.
The three-day clinic took place between Oct. 7-9 and was open to all undergraduate and graduate students, faculty, and staff. The Wellness at Penn hosted the program at Pottruck Health and Fitness Center.
“Wellness at Penn’s annual flu clinic brings the Penn community together to prioritize health and prevention,” Wellness at Penn Director of Public Health Rebecca Huxta wrote in a statement.
According to a Wellness at Penn report, 97 clinic volunteers helped administer 7,016 vaccinations. At 38.6%, undergraduate students made up the largest share of vaccine recipients. Graduate students came in a close second place.
Harrison College House led representation among campus residences, and women’s rowing was the most well-represented athletic team.

On average, the Flu Clinic saw 327 attendees per hour and had an average turnaround time of 4.9 minutes per visitor. At its peak, the clinic saw 508 people in one hour. Wellness at Penn partnered with the School of Nursing and enlisted Nursing students to help prepare and administer the vaccines.
This year’s clinic theme was “Fluchella,” a play on words on the popular music festival “Coachella,” and featured a VIP booth, wellness merchandise, and snacks. According to Huxta, the theme “put the clinic center stage” while “making flu vaccination accessible to the entire Penn community.”
If students missed the clinic, Huxta added that they “can still get vaccinated by visiting Student Health and Counseling’s medical care office or by visiting a local pharmacy.”
Earlier this month, Penn reported an increase in the prevalence of hand, foot, and mouth disease among undergraduates this fall.
“Staying up to date on vaccinations and taking simple precautions, like washing hands regularly and staying home when sick, can help keep our campus community healthy,” Huxta wrote.
