A Clarks Summit woman fled state police as they were attempting to stop her for a traffic infraction Monday, according to a criminal complaint.

After being taken into custody, police said Katie Ann Naegele, 51, defecated in the back seat of a police vehicle.

She faces charges of driving under the influence of alcohol, fleeing law enforcement officers and resisting arrest.

According to the criminal complaint, at about 6:30 p.m. Monday, Trooper Corey Carr was on patrol at the intersection of Valley View Drive and Forest Acres Drive in Newton Township, investigating a previous incident.

Carr spotted Naegele in a black BMW illegally stopped in the middle of the intersection, blocking traffic and making it necessary for motorists to navigate around her, creating a hazard.

When Naegele spotted Carr, she lowered her window and began arguing with Carr, recording the interaction on her phone.

Carr noted Naegele was slurring her words and had bloodshot eyes.

When Naegele ignored Carr’s instructions to move her vehicle, the trooper activated his emergency lights and attempted a traffic stop.

Naegele fled west on Valley View Drive, pulled into a driveway and then onto the lawn of her Forest Acres Drive residence, where she got out of the vehicle, screaming and calling for her husband, in spite of Carr’s orders to remain in the car.

When Carr approached her, Naegele resisted and struggled before being placed in handcuffs.

Naegele refused standardized field sobriety tests, but a preliminary breath test indicated she had been drinking.

She  agreed to have her blood drawn at a local hospital.

Troopers offered Naegele a clean pair of pants before transporting her from the hospital to State Police headquarters in Dunmore, but she refused, indicating she intended to get feces “all over his car.”

Troopers believed she again defecated in the police vehicle during transport to headquarters.

She also faces charges of vandalism to the police vehicle.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for 10:30 a.m. on Oct. 29 before District Judge Laura Turlip.
