An SUV had to be pulled from railroad tracks in Millvale early Sunday after going off road near Route 28, just past the northbound on-ramp at Millvale, a Shaler fire department said on its Facebook page.

The Bauerstown Volunteer Fire Department said that no one was found inside the vehicle.

Rescue crews and police responded to the accident that was reported at about 3:30 a.m. “Police were on scene and confirmed no one was inside and occupants ran from the vehicle,” the fire department said in its social media posting.

Firefighters began to assist the police in searching the tracks and the hillside for any occupants that had fled the vehicle. Crews continued to search with flashlights and thermal imaging cameras, but could not find anyone.

Crews from the Bauerstown, Etna, Millvale and Shaler’s Cherry City fire departments also assisted a local tow company on scene with lighting while the tow truck removed the vehicle from Norfolk Southern Corp.’s Conemaugh Rail Line.
