HARRISBURG, Pa. – Gov. Josh Shapiro is expected to sign a bill that would ban cell phones from schools.

Last week, state lawmakers in both the House and Senate have approved a bill to restrict mobile device use during the school day.

It requires schools to adopt a bell-to-bell ban starting in the 2027- 2028 school year.

Officials say removing phones will reduce classroom distractions and improve students’ mental health.

Gov. Shapiro has praised the move, saying “it’s time to get back to the basics in schools.”
