This week is the last chance for Philadelphians to use “The Portal,” an installation that allows people to connect with strangers in other countries, before it leaves the city on Saturday.
“The Portal” was moved from New York City to Philadelphia in 2024 as part of “Philadelphia’s American 250 Celebrations,” enabling people to look through a screen and see into another country.
While there were hopes to keep the installation in Philadelphia longer, the city was unable to extend its permit, according to the Philadelphia Inquirer. The installation requires a sponsor to cover its $30,000 annual maintenance and connectivity costs.
There is no word yet on where “The Portal” will go next.
