COPLAY, Pa. — A water main break closed a street in Coplay, Lehigh County, and forced two families from their homes.

Northampton Borough Municipal Authority General Manager Steve Kerbacher said crews were called to South Fourth Street for the main break about 5 p.m. Sunday.

Kerbacher said South Fourth Street has been closed since Sunday night.

Workers observed problems beneath the road surface, Kerbacher said.

Kerbacher said utilities are out at a twin home on the street. Other homes still have potable water.

He said he understood that borough officials told two families to evacuate their homes.

The authority is working with Coplay Borough and the Coplay-Whitehall Sewer Authority.

We contacted Coplay Borough Manager Tiffany Benson; she had no comment other than that the Northampton Borough Municipal Authority is doing the work.
