Today, the Pennsylvania Department of Health (DOH) announced that 1,398 measles cases have been confirmed across 44 counties in Pennsylvania so far in 2026.

This is an increase of 38 cases since Monday.

265 people required hospitalization for their illness and five deaths. While a local coroner’s office reported a 6th potential measles-associated death involving a 39-year-old woman in Franklin County on October 12, state health experts have kept it under formal investigation to verify if it strictly meets the state’s clinical and epidemiological criteria.

Counties reporting the most cases include Lancaster County (487), Mifflin (198) and Chester (93).

The best protection against measles remains getting fully vaccinated. The MMR vaccine, administered over two doses, boosts a person’s immune system and provides 97% lifetime protection.
