A generous donation is helping provide free cancer testing for 60 children in our region — offering families answers, hope, and one less financial burden during an already difficult time.

First Ascent Biomedical is a biotechnology company that uses advanced testing to help personalize cancer treatment. CEO Jim Foote says Erie will soon be home to one of just two laboratories, with the new facility expected to open in the coming weeks.

Foote says the testing can benefit patients with a wide range of cancers, helping provide information that may guide more personalized treatment options.

For Foote, the mission is also personal. His son, Trey, fought cancer for much of his life before passing away. His family’s experience continues to drive the company’s commitment to helping other families facing the disease.
